Rice paper lamps are one of the most beautiful and affordable lighting accents one can have to bring in light-air simplicity in your homes. They are beautiful to look at, low in maintenance and most frugal lighting options available for budget home decoration.

This hot season calls for soft lights and cool ambient lighting that goes easy on the eye. Rice Paper and Bamboo lanterns are the best bet for bringing in this touch of zen, simplicity, white, purity, and balmy effect. The lightness and simplicity of white paper adds to the aura you want to create in your room. And perfect for this hot summer.

Swirl and Waves - Acrylic Paintings

Here is one of my old paintings that got painted by itself. It needed no sketch or planning. It just got built by itself, layer by layer, outline by outline.

Swirls and waves are my favorite themes, which I plan to do more often now. Looking back on this tall painting, I feel happy. There is no technical finesse in here but the way the swirls fill up the canvas… fill up my heart too. I feel a lot of motion in this painting though it stands silent on the bare wall.

I had gifted this to my mother-in-law for Diwali, long time back. This painting went well with the house renovation project she undertook then.

Since the occasion was festive, I had chosen to include a lot off gold into it making it borderline kitsch. Thankfully, it did not seem garish then and blended well with the occasion. Over a period of time, the shine seemed a lot more matte in effect. It now hangs on her ivory cream walls casting a spell of its own.

This painting was done in acrylic media (if I remember it right). Those were the days when I started playing with mediums other than oils. And was happy with the results. But nothing beats my fascination and love for oil colors.

Whenever I see this painting, it pains me that I have not attempted more of these. It is but natural for anyone to paint in whirls, curves and swirls, for it is the natural way of the hand. There is meaning in every swirl, if we seek.

These are the unspoken words and messages from unknown books. And it is now time to do it again. To go with the flow. To rise and fall in love again.

Charter for Compassion – A call to bring the world together

Here are the 4 tenets of the Charter of Compassion:

1) The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

2) It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.

3) We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings—even those regarded as enemies.

4) We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.

It is not a call for sign up. It urges you to question yourself.

How to Paint a Geologic Abstract on a Triptych in Oil Media

Nature inspireds one and all in its resilient ways. From magnificiant and expansive landscapes to the minute details of an atom, there is inspiration all around. When ever I see an empty canvas, the are visions of endless landscapes, bursting skies, and all the possibilities of what colors can be.

Geological formations are inspiring and humbling. They offer a lot more than what a man can behold in his senses. There are stunning moments, astonishing colors, amazing formations, abstract concepts and composition, rare textures and hues, and so much more. How much can a poor human eye behold: And how much can the body take in the experience.

Most of my abstracts revolve around rocks, gemstones, and deepscapes. This tutorial is for all my friends who have asked for the technique I use. I hope it helps you in painting wild.
