Finally! Here is TED video of Jamie Oliver spelling out his wish.
Jamie Oliver’s Wish
“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspired families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”
The situation may not be so serious in India, but the rate at which we ape food and lifestyle habits of the ‘developed nations’, we might just be the third in line. We are a nation of hypertensive, diabetic and obese people, with a host of new lifestyle related diseases are being added every year. With fast foods, frozen meals, and kitchen cupboard loaded with emulsifiers, additives and preservatives, we are almost there.
While Jamie’s talk and wish is centered around USA and England, we have some key messages to take home.
Jamie Oliver’s Plan
Set up an organization to create a popular movement that will inspired people to change the way they eat. The movement will do this by establishing a network of community kitchens; launching a travelling food theater that will teach kids practical food and cooking skills in an entertaining way and provide basic training for parents and professionals; and bringing millions of people together through an online community to drive the fight against obesity. The grassroots movement must also challenge corporate America to support meaningful programs that will change the culture of junk food.
The Plan’s Needs
>> Help to establish the organization, with funding, office space and facilities.
>> Find partners to equip and run the community kitchens, and food suppliers to provide the fresh ingredients.
>> A partner to build and maintain a fleet of food theatre trucks.
>> Education experts, graphic designers, artists and writers to develop and produce creative, fun teaching materials.
>> Communications experts to create messaging for the movement.
>> Web designers and developers to create and build the website.
>> Establishment of a food line that generates a sustainable income for the movement.
>> Corporate partners to invest in cooking and food education for their customers and champion honest food labelling.

“Every child should be taught to cook in school, not just talk about nutrition all day. Good food can be made in 15 minutes. This could be the first generation where the kids teach the parents.”

I love Jamie Oliver! And the guy has a point–we really should pay more attention to our meals–choosing the ingredients, preparing them, serving them. So many fat people everywhere! And I’m not being judgmental when I say that–people are literally killing themselves slowly with the food they eat! And so many people don’t even know how to cook! That’s why they go hungry. I’m going to write about this in my blog soon. Thanks for the idea!

Great. Let me know when you write this post. We are indeed slowly killing ourselves. Time to go back to the good old days… when the food was fresh, slow cooked, nutritious…. and the toil behind it did world of good to our bodies and health. Good food is indeed labour of love.

Most computer based reading programs do not simulate live tutor instruction and book, flash card and other educational toys cannot instruct the child. Nutrition Facts
